Creativity Needed in All of Ministry, Not Just Teaching

Share:

Often when we think of creativity, we think of teaching.  Rightly so in that there are so many benefits in being a creative teacher.  Teachers need to work at turning the benefits of creativity into reality.  Creativity, however, belongs in all of ministry, not just teaching.

Examples of Creativity Needed in Ministry in Addition to Bible Teaching

Pastors and elders need to think outside of the box to hold true to the Word of God while reaching an ever changing world.  Not everything changes in a changing world.  They must learn to be creative in form while maintaining the substance.

Ministry leaders and those involved in staffing need a good dose of creativity in structuring so that busy people will volunteer in ways that fit their schedule as well as their spiritual gifting.

People helpers involved in ministering to the poor or unemployed must think through creative ways of raising funds and supplies to help those in need as they find themselves facing decreased donations and resultant budget deficits in a bad economy.

However you serve —
You can choose to do ministry the way you’ve always done it but you will probably face increasing frustration and discouragement as you watch attendance decrease and interest wane.  Or, you can look to our creative God who made you in His image to provide you with the wisdom and ideas to get people’s attention and then point them to an Almighty, Sovereign God who is just as relevant today as He was yesterday.

  1. When God created the heavens and earth he made things from nothing. I agree we were made in God’s image but we don’t have that kind of creative power!! Isn’t creativity more about having a good imagination, maybe a personality thing?

    • To be sure, some personalities tend to be more creative than others. But, I believe we all have the potential for creativity due to being made in the image of God. Admittedly, some personalities will have to work at it more than others. And, yes, it is true that we can’t create something out of nothing as God did, but not everything came from nothing. He also “invested with new form” that which was already in existence. For example, He separated the vapors into the sky above and waters below and He gathered together the waters so dry land appeared. If you look at that aspect of God’s creativity, you will realize that creativity involves order, design, and planning. It isn’t just haphazardly bringing things together to form something new. God’s creativty involved variety seen in the different species of plant and animal life and even in gender differences. Certainly as you look around at creation, you would have to say God employed some great imaginative skill. Imagination is a part of creativity but creativity is so much more than having a good imagination. God’s creativity also involves stepping back and evaluating to make sure it is good. Remember how God did that in Genesis 1? All of this defines God’s creativity. This is the kind of creativity we all can apply to ministry.

  2. I believe that creativity is very essential in the journeys of life. Creativity is the ability to bring into existence. It goes along with vision. In Proverbs 29:18, God’s word says: where there is no vision, the people perish. Simply put, vision is seeing a picture of your role in God’s plan ahead of you and working towards it’s realisation bits by bits. A man without a vision will lack that creative ability, you can not create what you have not seen. God has imputed into us His divine power to enable the plan of heaven on earth through the Church (you and I). Whatever you see or have around you is a product of the creative mind. We are all expected to be creative in our respective fields and ministries, so we can experience a greater level of success in our communities and offices. It is possible to be creative, however we need dreams and information to become a creative people. Shalom

  3. Wow,.. I am so thankful for God’s creativity in me. yes,… God is awsome,…. how his creative ways are revealed all around us,.. and we should know that we can be creative as long as we stay focused on God’s word. God’s word is so inspiring. I pray that God encourages us in our creativity. Thank You God for your great creativity you place in us,…. only by your power and grace may we be servants like Jesus.
    Lovingly in Christ Jesus, Dev.
