Do we truly believe that Jesus is who He says He is?
If so, we should sense a need to introduce Him to others. What we must remember is that there are at least four ways we communicate our beliefs.
4 Ways We Communicate What We Believe
1) What we say — our words
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. (1 Pet. 3:15-16)
- Are we respectfully dialoguing with people who do not yet believe?
2) How we live — our actions
let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matt 5:16)
- Are we living in a way that reflects what we say we believe?
3) Who we are — our character
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Gal. 5:22-23)
- Are we becoming more and more Christ-like to the core of our being?
4) How we emote — our reactions
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. (1 Cor. 13:1-3)
- Do people sense the love of God coming through us in all we do and say?
People are looking at the whole of who we are, not just our words, to see if they want this Jesus who claims to be the way, the truth, and the life. Is what they see backing up what we say?
