Your Life Experiences: A Preparatory Part of Your Ministry Profile

Experience Part of Ministry ProfileYour life experiences are a piece of the puzzle that makes up your ministry profile that God uses to prepare you for serving and give you perspective in it.  What you believe about God will help determine how you handle your life circumstances … past, present, and future.

Will you wallow in self-pity over what has happened or rise victorious and let Him use what has happened to you to minister to others?  Will you question His love and doubt His plan for your life or will you trust in His sovereignty and rely on His faithfulness?  Will you use your life circumstances as an excuse for not serving or will you step out in faith relying on His grace and power?

Bible Verses to Assure Us that Our Life Experience Prepare Us for Ministry

Read the following Scripture and consider how this kind of God is capable of using both the good and bad of your life to His glory as you serve Him.

Ps. 139:1-16a –  He is fully aware of what is happening with us. Nothing that happens escapes His notice.  He is omniscient, all knowing.

Ps. 139:16 – He pre-determined our days.  He is sovereign.

Ps. 139:17-18 – He cares so much about us, He is constantly thinking about us. He is loving.

Rom. 8:28 – He always works on our behalf.  He is good and wise.

Rom. 8:31-39  – He holds on to us no matter what happens.  Nothing can separate us from Him.

2 Cor. 1:3-4  –  He doesn’t remove trouble from our lives but is with us through it, giving us all we need to rise above.  He is the provider.

  1. I am trying to understand some of life’s ups and downs. I pray to God. But I don’t think I’m praying the right pray when I pray at night, or morning.

    Thanks.

    • I am glad you are looking to God to try to understand life, Jacquline. He certainly has the power to help us through the ups and downs. And, He has reasons for allowing different things to happen to us.

Though He has all power, He does not always use it to change our circumstances. But, He will give us peace as we walk through both the ups and down. Isaiah 26:3 says, “You (God) will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

Though He has purpose in all He does, He does not always tell us why things happen the way they do. He does not always tell how all these things fit together and how they will work together for the good to those who love Him as promised in Romans 8:28. Sometimes no matter how or how often we pray, we will not get all the answers. These are the times we need to simply trust the heart of God that He truly does have our good at heart. In Jeremiah 29:11 God told the Israelites, “For I know the plans I have for you, … plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” That is His heart for us as well.

  2. In my early 20’s I received 2 class A misdemeanors on my record. I was young and in a abusive marriage. My now x-husband would call the police when we were fighting and they would always take me away. I never knew what a criminal record meant. That word criminal breaks my heart because I know im not a criminal, but I know this is on my record and people will judge me especially employers. I did not realize then what was going on. The pain of this mark on my record hurts, but I know God is almighty. The devil wants me to believe the reason I haven’t been able to get into the jobs I desire is because of the 2 class A misdemeanors on my record. This some what seems true in reality because of the law which makes me feel condemned. I still need Gods revelation in this area. I know God is almighty, but I do know people have the power to judge me according to my youthful ignorance. I did not realize this was a problem until I was 29 yrs old. In my mind I know I am free and my all doors are opened to me according to Gods will, but it still sits in the back of my mind that the law says because I have 2 class A misdemeanors I am hindered which is true. With that said my hope in the Father still remains that my success financially and career wise will be well.

I have realized that I knew what God had brought me through, but I was ashamed of all them and was anger that it happened to me. I wasted years still angry that desire I had as a child for someone to help me, and no one did, has followed me up to this point. I have decided to confidently share my testimony not out of sorrow, secretly shame, but praise to God. I did not want that to happen to me but it did out of my ignorance and carnal mindedness. I thank God he did not leave me blind, I feel a breakthrough in my spirit right now.

    • Thank you for sharing your testimony, LaQuita. God looks for repentant hearts. He does not hold our past against us as people so often do. Look at King David in the Old Testament. You shared that it was out of ignorance and carnal mindedness that you did what you did. David willfully committed adultery and murder but turned back to God. Not only did God use him in his role as king of Israel but it was through his lineage Jesus, the Messiah came. Talk about grace! David did face consequences of his sin (i.e., death of child) but God forgave him and still gave him a meaningful life. Look at the woman caught in adultery brought to Jesus. The people wanted to stone her. Jesus said, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” Of course, her accusers had to walk away. Then Jesus said, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” Though Jesus was perfect and could have judged her, he said, “neither do I condemn you … Go now and leave your life of sin” (Jn. 8:3-11). God does not hold our past against us, even that which was done knowingly and willfully.

As already mentioned, though He forgives, God doesn’t always remove the consequences of our behavior. Perhaps one of the consequences you will have to live with is the record that will follow you and perhaps be used against you by others. However, the same God who went on to use King David despite his sin, is the same God who today loves you and wants to use you. In His timing He will open just the right doors for you as you trust Him (Prov. 3:5-6). In the meantime, I encourage you to be faithful in what he gives you to do for His glory each day. Continue to share your testimony. He might even want to use you in some sort of prison ministry or ministry to abused women based on your life experience. Keep trusting Him. Do not lose heart. He will open the way.
