You can get help with that on the MinTools.com site which has a section devoted to the church\u2019s purpose beginning with a look at <a href=\"https:\/\/mintools.com\/church-purpose.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">God&#8217;s unchanging priority<\/a>. The TrainChurchLeaders.com site also deals with <a href=\"https:\/\/trainchurchleaders.com\/church-purpose.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">God&#8217;s purposes for the Church<\/a> and how it affects various leadership responsibilities.<\/p>\n<h2>Do We Align with God&#8217;s Priority?<\/h2>\n<p>Based on what Jesus defined as the greatest commandments, we could conclude that our purpose would be to live out those commandments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"class2\" style=\"padding-left: 40px; padding-right: 40px;\"><em>&#8220;Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.&#8221; This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: &#8220;Love your neighbor as yourself.&#8221; (Matt. 22:37-39)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The next verse cues us in to the importance and priority of these commands. Jesus asserted, &#8220;All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>If the Law Hangs on Love for God and People, So Should our Church Purpose<\/h2>\n<p>The Ten Commandments listed in Exodus 20 are ways to show love for God and love for people.<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"50%\">\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>Love for God:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\">You shall have no other gods before me.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\">You shall not make for yourself an idol.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\">You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\">Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"50%\">\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>Love for People:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\">Honor your father and your mother.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\">You shall not murder.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\">You shall not commit adultery.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\">You shall not steal.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\">You shall not give false testimony.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px;\">You shall not covet your neighbor&#8217;s house &#8230; wife.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px;\">For more, go to:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mintools.com\/blog\/10-commandments-love-god.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10 Commandments Teach How to Love God<\/a><\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"rp4wp-related-post-content\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mintools.com\/blog\/10-commandments-love-people.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10 Commandments Teach How to Love People<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The theme of love for God and love for people runs through Scripture with the various commands lining up under these purposes. God\u2019s objectives haven&#8217;t changed. Consequently, we should be able to make a two column chart for our church with the headings Love God and Love People. What we do should be able to fit under one column or the other. That which does not clearly fit, should be examined for its value of the time and resources it takes in light of these purposes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; padding-right: 40px;\">The question we must ask is if we are actively pursuing and lining up with God\u2019s purposes as a church.
