{"id":6385,"date":"2011-05-18T13:00:41","date_gmt":"2011-05-18T17:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mintools.com\/blog\/?p=6385"},"modified":"2026-07-26T10:55:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T14:55:24","slug":"ministry-fairs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mintools.com\/blog\/ministry-fairs.htm","title":{"rendered":"Ministry Fairs: Goals &#8211; Why Have Them"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"padding-left: 25px; padding-right: 20px; padding-top: 6px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6386 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/mintools.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/ministry-fairs.jpg\" alt=\"Ministry Fairs\" width=\"150\" height=\"74\" \/><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 14px;\">&#8220;Other churches are doing it.\u00a0 Maybe we should too.&#8221; Yeah!<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 22px;\">If that is your reason for having a ministry fair, you\u00a0could be headed\u00a0for some disappointment.<\/div>\n<p style=\"clear: both;\">Before planning a ministry fair, or deciding to have one, first determine your goals.\u00a0 What are you hoping to accomplish by having a ministry fair?\u00a0 Good reasons do exist for having a ministry fair.<\/p>\n<p>Once you know what you hope to accomplish, then make sure your planning works toward those goals.\u00a0 Always keep the goals in view.<\/p>\n<h2>Possible Goals for Having a Ministry Fair<\/h2>\n<p>Here are some example goals and the implications of those goals:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0 To get people excited about serving<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Then you better use it to celebrate and show how much you value the various servants in your church already serving. (special recognition, certificates, appreciation gifts, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Then you better use it to communicate and show how much you value the different ministries in your church.<\/li>\n<li>Then you better use it to challenge and show how much you value the prospects&#8217; contribution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Notice the word &#8220;value&#8221; in each of the above statements.\u00a0 If you want people to be excited, they need to see the value you place on it and they also need to value it.\u00a0 You can use a ministry fair to do this.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>2)\u00a0 To showcase the various ministries in the church and ways people can serve within the ministries<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Then you need to collect information about the ministries and determine how to effectively display information about\u00a0them.<\/li>\n<li>Then you need to know what ministry needs exist in the various ministries and figure out how to connect the right people to the needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>3)\u00a0 To make connections between prospects and ministry leaders<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Then ministry leaders all should be planners.\u00a0 Involve them from the beginning so they take ownership.<\/li>\n<li>Then ministry leaders all should be present.\u00a0 Secure their commitment early on, giving them a date to put on their calendars well in advance.<\/li>\n<li>Then ministry leaders all should be participants.\u00a0 Assign specific responsibilities or tasks to them so they know how to go about making connections.<\/li>\n<li>Then ministry leaders all should be pursuers.\u00a0 Expect them to follow-up with those interested in learning more or becoming part of their team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>4)\u00a0 To enhance the recruitment process for filling ministry needs<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Then you need to provide clear &#8220;next steps&#8221; for people.\u00a0 (sheets or\u00a0cards to fill out about their interest to visit the ministry, get some hands-on in it before making a decision, learn more through a sit down consultation, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Then you need to plan follow-up.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t expect people attending to follow through.\u00a0\u00a0You must take the first step in following up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Of course, ministry fairs aren&#8217;t the only way to get people excited about serving, showcase the ministries in your church, make connections, and help with <a title=\"Recruitment\" href=\"https:\/\/mintools.com\/recruitment.htm\">recruiting<\/a>.\u00a0 But, they are one way.\u00a0 And, ministry fairs in and of themselves won&#8217;t fully accomplish these objectives.\u00a0 But, they can be a complimentary means to a church culture regularly aiming toward these objectives.<\/p>\n<p>How well ministry fairs work for you will likely be determined by <a href=\"https:\/\/mintools.com\/blog\/ministry-fairs-planning.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">how well you plan them<\/a> &#8230; the next post.<\/p>\n<p>For suggestions of gifts used in different ministries, check out this resources: <a href=\"https:\/\/mintools-store.com\/products\/ministry-handbook-spiritual-gifts-in-use\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ministry Handbook: Spiritual Gifts in Use<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Other churches are doing it.
