Too Hard to Make It Through Life Without Peace – Part 5

Peace Through Life's DifficultiesNow the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. (2 Thess. 3:16)

Peace Comes Through Being Ready for Spiritual Battles

Sometimes we lose our peace because we aren’t alert and ready for the flaming arrows of the enemy.  Remember, “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Pet. 5:8). If Satan can rob you of peace, He has rendered you ineffective because it indicates that you are no longer trusting in the God of peace.  “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you” (Isa. 26:3).

We need to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power” and we need to “put on the full armor of God” so we can take our “stand against the devil’s schemes” (Eph. 6:10-11).  Of great significance is that our feet are to be “fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace” (Eph. 6:15).

The same peace we are in jeopardy of losing is part of our weaponry to fight spiritual battles.  God’s peace gives us the readiness we need to march into battle.  Once again let’s be reminded that the peace we so desperately need in the spiritual battles is wrapped up in a Person — “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet” (Rom. 16:20). So, “be strong in the Lord” (Eph. 6:10).

If our readiness for battle “comes from the gospel of peace” then we need to review the truths from the previous posts:

  1. Apart from the grace of God there is no peace. – Make sure you have a personal relationship with Jesus “by grace through faith” (Eph. 2:8-9).
  2. Having peace starts with knowing the Source of Peace. – Spend time in God’s Word so you get to know Him better.
  3. You will have troubles but can be an overcomer in Him. – Line up your expectations about life with reality.
  4. We need to focus on what really matters in life. –  Discern between what is essential and non-essential in the kingdom of God and in the Spirit pursue that which counts for eternity.
  5. We need to seek after God’s peace not the world’s. – Let God fill the vacuum within you, not things, people, success, etc.
