Our Source of Strength for Spiritual Battles

Share:

Strong in the Lord in Spiritual BattlesAccording to Ephesians 6, we need to put on the armor of God to win spiritual battles. The strength, however, isn’t found in the armor but in God. The passage begins with an exhortation to, “be strong IN THE LORD and in HIS mighty power” (Eph. 6:10). The armor isn’t the hero of this passage. God is. He precedes and provides the armor. He displays His mighty power through that which the various pieces of armor represent — truth, righteousness, the gospel, faith, salvation, the Word.

About the Source of Strength in Spiritual Battles

Yes, “put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Eph. 6:11) and “so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground” (Eph. 6:13). The armor holds an important place in securing victory but must always link back to it being the “armor OF GOD”. Remember these truths:

  • The armor is merely protective gear. — The Lord is the Protector. (Ps. 32:7; Jn. 17:11, 15; 2 Thess. 3:3)
  • The armor provides a means of accessing the power we need. — The Lord is the Power Source. (2 Cor. 10:4; 2 Pet. 1:3-4)
  • The armor doesn’t deliver us in the battle. — The Lord is the Deliverer. (Ps. 144:1; Prov. 21:31)

Spiritual warfare is real. We can’t fight on our own. The “victory belongs to the Lord” (Prov. 21:31). Put your trust in Him!
