God as Our Father

We have an Everlasting Father (Isa. 9:6) who always did and always will work on behalf of His children. The qualities within Him that make Him Father are unchanging. It’s who He is that causes Him to go from A to Z for us.

ABC’s of God as OurĀ Father

God acts on our behalf as our Father in many ways. Here are the beginning letters of the alphabet providing just a sampling of how the Bible describes God as our Father.

  • Adopted us to sonship, making us His children, giving us a place of belonging (Rom. 8:15, 23; 2 Cor. 6:17-18; Gal. 4:4-5; Eph. 1:4-5)
  • Befriends us, building a relationship with us in which we can feel secure (Rom. 8:14-16; Gal. 4:5-7)
  • Comforts us, caring for us and extending mercy in our distress (2 Cor. 1:3-4)
  • Disciplines us, correcting us so we become better (Prov. 3:11-12; Heb. 12:7-10)
  • Encourages us, spurring us on to that which is good and right (2 Thess. 2:16-17)
  • Forgives us, not holding our sin against us (Ps. 103:11-14; Lk. 15:11-32)
  • Gives us an inheritance, making us His heirs (Lk. 12:32; Rom. 8:17; Col. 1:12)
