Ministry Effectiveness must be measured by what brings glory, honor, and praise to God, not what elevates us or makes us feel accomplished. God not only sets the standard but is the standard.
Bible Verses Showing How Fruitfulness Brings Glory to God
Notice how bearing fruit brings God glory and lets people know we belong to Him. When we bear fruit, we’re reflecting Him to others.
This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (Jn. 15:8)
By their fruit you will recognize them. (Matt. 7:16-20)
We have become effective when others see Him through who we are, what we say, and what we do. That’s the measure of effectiveness — living a life worthy of the Lord that bears fruit.
Bible Verses Defining Fruitfulness, Hence Ministry Effectiveness
What does God identify as spiritual fruit, or ministry effectiveness? Bible verses dealing with fruitfulness point to having both an inward and outward impact or effect. Hence, fruitfulness exhibits itself in who we are, not just what we say and do.
1) Fruit of Christ-like qualities with love being the ultimate
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Gal. 5:22-23)
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Pet. 1:5-8)
to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Eph. 4:12-13)
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. (1 Cor. 13:1-3)
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ – to the glory and praise of God. (Phil. 1:9-11)
2) Fruit of Lips
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. (Heb. 13:15)
Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. (James 1:26)
We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. (James 3:2)
3) Fruit of Good Works
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Cor. 9:8)
so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God (Col. 1:10)
With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thess. 1:11-12)
