Holidays and different seasonal events provide opportunities for the church to minister to unique needs and can be a platform for outreach and special teaching.
While we can find Scripture verses pertaining to old age that are often used for grandparents, this post will look at only those verses that directly suggest grandparenting. Some grandparents can be more in the middle-age range than in their senior years, so the verses chosen apply to all grandparents.
What Bible Verses About Grandparents Teach Us
Responsibility of Grandparents Toward Their Grandchildren:
Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. (Deut. 4:9)
Reward in Having Grandchildren:
Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children. (Prov. 17:6)
Role Grandparents can have in Spiritual Development of Grandchildren:
I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. (2 Tim. 1:5)
Reach of Grandparents into Future Generations:
And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation. (Ex. 34:6-7)
But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children (Ps. 103:17)
Repayment of Grandchildren to Grandparents:
But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God. (1 Tim. 5:4)

Varying shades of yellow, brown, red, purple … the colors of fall foliage.
Use these colors on a bulletin board and we have stepped into autumn.
Bible Verses Relevant to the Autumn Season
Bible Verses with the Word “Autumn”:
The word “autumn” is only used once in Scripture in Jude 1:12 referring to false teachers as “clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted — twice dead.” Some translations refer to autumn rains (Deut. 11:14; Ps. 84:6; Jer. 5:24; Joel 2:23; James 5:7) but the original language is actually “early rains” meaning those that fell from October on. Of those verses, James 5:7 would probably be the most appropriate for a bulletin board verse.
Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.
Bible Verses Related to the Fall Season:
Since Scripture doesn’t provide a lot of verses with the word “autumn” we will have to turn to related verses such as those with the concept of harvest, a fall phenomenon. You will find plenty of verses about the harvest but some that are more appropriate for a bulletin board include the following:
As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease. (Gen. 8:22)
The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us. (Ps. 67:6)
Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. (Ps. 85:11-12)
Go to the ant . . . yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. (Prov. 6:8)
He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son (Prov. 10:5)
From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. (Prov. 18:20)
Sluggards do not plow in season; so at harvest time they look but find nothing. (Prov. 20:4)
Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, honor is not fitting for a fool. (Prov. 26:1)
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” (Matt. 9:37)
Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. (Matt. 9:38
He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. (Lk. 10:2)
Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. (Jn. 4:35)
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. (2 Cor. 9:10)
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Gal. 6:9)
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. (Heb. 12:11)
Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. (James 3:18)
You could use a harvest background for these verse such as a field ready to be harvested, haystacks or hay bales, pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, cornucopia, etc.
You could pull out a theme from the verse around which to gear the board. In these verses you’ll see:
qualities in God: faithfulness, provider, giver of blessings
qualities that should be in us: patience, perseverance, prudence
concept of sowing and reaping
a world (field) ripe for harvest
Other Bulletin Board Ideas for Autumn
In addition to fall foliage (fall colored leaves on a tree, leaves falling from the tree, leaves on the ground with a bare tree, leaves in piles, leaves being raked) and harvest, you could also design a board around events that occur in the fall …
i.e., the start of a new Sunday School year and/or other ministries starting up in the fall, back to school, a fall festival, and fall holidays.
You can put any Bible verse students are memorizing or that is a key verse for a unit of study for the fall quarter on a background suitable for autumn.
Tips for Fall Bulletin Boards
As with any season, be careful with using a play on words if the board is designed for young children. For example, I saw a bulletin board with colored leaves falling off of a tree captioned, “Falling for Jesus.” What does that mean to a preschooler? I saw a different bulletin board titled, “Fall in Love with Jesus” that might be more understandable for a young child but still probably not the most appropriate for them. It would be better to do something simple like, “Thank You God for Fall” or Thank You God for the Beauty of Autumn” if it is being designed for young children.
Be creative. You can display the verse word by word, in order, on leaves or pumpkins. Or, you could put student names or pictures on these items. You could have students write down a blessing for which they are thankful on a piece of produce to put in a cornucopia or on feathers of a turkey.
After the flood, God promised, “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease” (Gen. 8:22). Summer will therefore continue to be a seasonal topic for Sunday School and church bulletin boards.
A summer bulletin board theme based on Genesis 8:22 could be about how God keeps His promises.
More Bible Verses Using the Word “Summer”
I found the word “summer” used in the Bible 18 times but not all would make sense for use on a bulletin board. In addition to Genesis 8:22, here are few that could be used:
Theme: God’s wisdom and power seen in creation
“It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.” (Ps. 74:17)
For a bulletin board design you could put the words to this verse in a typical summer landscape (i.e., sun, flowers).
Theme: Signs of His coming
“Look at the fig tree and all the trees. When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.” (Lk. 21:28-31)
While this parable told by Jesus references what happens in spring that leads to summer, it has the word “summer” in it. Perhaps it could be displayed right before the summer season begins. (parable also in Matt. 24:32-33; Mk. 13:28)
Theme: Learn wisdom from the ant.
“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.” (Prov. 6:6-8)
“Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer;” (Prov. 30:25)
The bulletin board could be designed with an ant mound using a summer backdrop (i.e., sun shining). You could have ants heading into the mound in a path each having a word from Proverbs 30:25 or you could have a picnic table with ants and Proverbs 6:6-8.
Theme: It just isn’t right. It doesn’t make sense.
“Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, honor is not fitting for a fool.” (Prov. 26:1)
The board could have an obvious summer theme (maybe a picnic table & people in summer clothing with the sun brightly shining, etc.) and snowflakes falling.
Theme: wise versus lazy … being a good steward
“He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.” (Prov. 10:5)
This would be a good one to display toward the end of the summer.
Seasonal Activities & Phenomenon for Summer Bulletin Boards
Use your imagination thinking about summer activities to use as backgrounds:
(Click for book in affiliate store.)
vacations, the beach, shovels & buckets, sea shells, beach balls, footprints in the sand, butterflies, the sun, butterflies, flowers, watering can, birds & birdhouses, lighthouses, boating/sailing, swimming, gardens producing fruits & vegetables, ponds with ducks/frogs, bees and other insects, wash lines with clothes hanging on them, seasonal fruit like watermelons, flip flops, picnics, feeling hot/the heat, blue skies, sunglasses, playground, kites, ice-cream cones, frisbees, badminton
An example could be a bulletin board designed with a fishing theme. You could use the following Bible verse.
Jesus said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matt. 4:19, KJV)
Perhaps you could develop a theme around not forgetting God while on vacation.
Anything dealing with the wonder of God’s creation as observed in this season of the year could be appropriate.
In the U.S. you could have a freedom or patriotic display for Independence Day.
Some Tips for Designing Your Summer Bulletin Board
Determine if your lesson theme could be represented using any of the above ideas.
Think of verses, poems, sayings, or concepts related to summer that could fit your study.
i.e., “This is the day the Lord has made …” could fit a bright summer background.
Consider how you can get students involved in making the board.
something they can write on fish, flowers, etc. (i.e., prayer requests); flowers made with students’ hand prints; their footprints in the sand; photos of them on displayed items; students color or paint items to be placed on the board
Decide if it would be possible to make it three-dimensional or textured.
light-weight objects, real sand, etc.
Watch for abstracts and symbolism if the board targets young children.
Younger ages are concrete thinkers so a play on words using the sun and Son might not be understood by them but would for older ages.
Spring is a wonderful season of the year when new growth appears, flowers start to bloom, and birds are chirping. These concepts can form the backdrop for a seasonal bulletin board.
Ideas for Bulletin Boards from Biblical References about the Spring Season
Bible Verses with the Words ‘Spring’ or ‘Springtime’:
Scripture with the words “spring” or “springtime” refer to spring rains (Job. 29:23; Prov. 16:15; Jer. 3:3; 5:24; Hos. 6:3; Joel 2:23; Zech. 10:1; James 5:7). Most of these verses would need a greater context for understanding and consequently would not be good for use on a bulletin board but you could possibly use …
Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. (James 5:7)
Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hos. 6:3)
Click image for Grass Trim from an affiliate store.
Theme Possibility: Spring rains bring benefits and so a theme might be “The Blessings of Spring,” “Showers of Blessings,” or “Count Your Blessings.” You could design the board with the look of fresh grass and flower beds where the sprouts are just starting to show with rain drops coming down. To make it interactive, you could cut out large rain drops on which students write a blessing from God and tack it on to a spring scene on the board.
Bible Verses Describing Spring:
See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. (Song of Sol. 2:11-13)
Theme Possibility: Since this verse deals with the transition from winter to spring you could do something like “Winter Lasts But a Season & Then Comes the Renewal of Spring.”
Bible Verses About Seeds, Planting, New Growth:
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. (Matt. 6:28-29)
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: … a time to plant … (Eccl. 3:1-2)
He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate–bringing forth food from the earth (Ps. 104:14)
For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations. (Isa. 61:11)
The Parable about Sower & the Seed (Matt. 13:3-9, 18-23)
Theme Possibility: Since spring is a time for sowing, you could use a sowing and reaping theme like “Sow Now & Reap in Due Season.”
Bible Verses about New Beginnings:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Cor. 5:17)
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” (Rev. 21:5)
Theme: Anything looking like the newness of the spring season could be a backdrop for either of the above verses.

Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. (Ps. 96:1)
Theme: You could display the above verse with a background of birds sitting on branches with spring blossoms. Depending on the look, you might use musical notes trim.

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. (Rom. 6:4)
Theme: An Easter theme is quite appropriate in conjunction with spring referencing the new life we have in Him.
Bible Verse for Spring Cleaning:
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)
Theme Possibility: Spring housecleaning would be a good women’s ministry theme for a bulletin board displaying pictures of one’s house being cleaned.
Design Tips for Spring Displays
Use bright, spring colors and pastels.
Use images and border trim with the following: birds (especially robins), bird nests, feathers, caterpillars, butterflies, ladybugs, flowers, flower buds, grass, blossoming trees, seeds, rain drops, puddles, rainbows umbrellas, rabbits, ducks, little chicks
You can possibly find pictures from old bulletins or greeting cards. Make flowers with children’s hand prints done with finger paints.

When looking at keywords used to access MinTools.com, I am amazed by how many come to the site looking for help with seasonal bulletin board ideas. Searches include “Bible verses for winter bulletin boards,” “winter bulletin board ideas,” or similar, depending on the season.
When looking for Bible verses to use on bulletin boards, just because the word “winter” appears, doesn’t mean it would be good for a bulletin board. The verse needs to make sense without the context for it to stand alone. Following are some possibilities. How much of the verse you would use might depend on the age viewing it or the size of the board.
As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease. (Gen. 8:22)
It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter. (Ps. 74:17)
Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth. (Hos. 6:3)
Finding verses using the word “winter” that make sense without the context didn’t leave us with a lot of verses. Next, I thought of concepts, events, phenomenon found within the seasons and that opened the field. For example, when we think of winter, we might visualize snow.
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. (Ps. 51:7)
He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes. (Ps. 147:16)
Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. (Isa. 1:18)
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. (Isa. 55:10-11)
Think also of the stillness you can sense going outside in freshly fallen snow and this verse fits:
Be still, and know that I am God. (Ps. 46:10)
Bulletin Board Design
You could design a full-scale winter scene with a Bible verse strategically placed.
You could build an interactive board wherein students make images or snowflakes to add to a basic design you’ve already put up. Maybe you could have them write a prayer request on an item they will add or perhaps something about that season of the year for which they are thankful.
Or, you could make a simple display using winter borders or trim with the verse in the middle, perhaps putting some accents or cut-outs throughout the verse. (Click on the image to check out possibilities in one of our affiliate stores.)
Perhaps you don’t have a budget to purchase trim or maybe what you can find doesn’t appropriately fit your theme or age slant.
Look for pictures of winter scenes in old church bulletins or from magazines. (Saving pictures to a picture file throughout the year helps for upcoming needs.)
Make your own snowflakes from white paper.
Cut out simple silhouette images to use against a contrasting background.
Print pictures from graphic programs or pull from your own digital photography of winter scenes.
Designing a bulletin board that will be displayed throughout the entire season is one possibility but you could also think of church events or holidays within that particular season. Maybe your church is having a winter retreat which could lend itself to many ideas. Of course, Christmas would open up lots of possibilities.
(If you want to share bulletin board ideas you’ve used for the winter season to help others, feel free to leave a comment.)
The cross plus the resurrection equals the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you … that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to . . . (1 Cor. 15:1-8)
How 1 Corinthians 15 Defines the Gospel
Christ died for our sins.
Jesus died on the cross so our sins could be forgiven but without His resurrection, God’s power to be a victor over sin and sin’s penalty would appear uncertain.
He was buried.
Jesus was buried for three days, showing He had truly died, but the grave could not hold Him for God’s plan to reconcile the world to Himself would not be held back.
He was raised on the third day according to Scripture.
Jesus had to die to pay the penalty for our sin but He did not have to stay dead. God prophesied about His plan as additional proof of His power over sin and death.
He appeared to many people.
Jesus knew people needed help to believe. Theirs would not be a blind faith, based on hopes it was true. In addition to fulfilled prophecies, Jesus also walked among them, showed them His scars, and even ate before them in His resurrected body. God offered proof to bolster their faith and to provide eyewitness accounts for future generations.
The Cross plus the Resurrection therefore equals:
When we grasp the significance of the Gospel, which is about Jesus dying on the cross and then rising from the dead, we have the following:
reassurance He can be trusted to do what He says
realization He has the power to do what He says
When we truly understand what the cross plus the resurrection equals, then we will:
recognize it as the power of God to save us
remember it regularly as we live out our daily lives
